The General Assembly has passed Public Act 100-0735. The Act provides that drones (defined as “unmanned aircraft systems”) are to be regulated at the State-level. More, that no local government, including a home rule unit of government, can regulate unmanned aircraft systems. Local governments should be aware that their existing regulations on drones and other unmanned aircraft systems are now void and may wish to repeal the same.
